Celebrating John & Hallie’s 100km trek across The Sahara Desert

Today we’re sharing a huge congratulations to our very own John Phillips and Hallie Mant for completing their 100km trek across the Sahara Desert for Hope for Tomorrow!

After months of preparation and determination, they took on 5 hot days of trekking and braved 4 chilly nights camping in the heart of The Sahara Desert to raise funds for a cause close to our hearts. Despite many aches, pains, blisters and desert extremes, they walked across the finish line having learned valuable lessons, seen incredible sights and shared memories that will last a lifetime.

Here’s an insight into what their journey entailed:

Day 1 (5-6 hours trekking)

  • 15km through Jebel Bani and Col Umm Laachar
  • Past the oasis of Amda Noumssafi
  • First chilly night camping under the stars

Day 2 (9-10 hours trekking)

  • 34km
  • Past traditional nomad camps
  • Across rocky plateaus
  • To the dunes of Chegaga

Day 3 (7-8 hours trekking)

  • 24km
  • Sunrise over the dunes
  • Trekking towards M’Hamid
  • Lunch at the Tamarist trees
  • Evening camp at Bougarn

Day 4 (7-8 hours trekking)

  • Trekking through dunes as far as the naked eye can see
  • Lunch in the shade after 12km
  • Final stretch of 10km over rocky terrain
  • Last camp at Oued Naam for bread making and birthday celebrations

Day 5 (3-5 hours trekking)

  • Final 14km trek through mini dunes
  • A celebration lunch in the ‘big dunes’
  • Journey to Ait Ben Haddou

Thanks to their dedication and your support, John and Hallie have raised over £10,000, including gift aid, which could provide 677 life-saving treatments onboard Hope for Tomorrow’s mobile cancer care units. Our heartfelt thanks go out to everyone who supported their journey by donating, following the updates, and sharing kind words of encouragement.

We couldn’t be prouder of John, our Managing Director, and Hallie, our Marketing Executive, for giving this challenge their all to make a lasting impact on the lives of those battling cancer.
