Throughout the coming months we will be putting our insurance advisers in the spotlight. First, we would like to introduce you to our latest addition to our team and commercial sector at JMP, Will. Will joins JMP from the world’s largest insurance broker with over 10 years experience in the industry, providing a wealth of knowledge and customer service excellence- find out more about Will and his role at JMP today.
Can you tell us about your background in insurance?
I have worked in the insurance industry for a little under 11 years now. Initially starting in personal lines, I soon moved into the Commercial team and spent a number of years working with contractors and SME Commercial businesses on a wide range of insurance products. After this, an opportunity presented itself to become an Account Executive in the Tenant Risks team working with local authorities and housing associations providing a tenants’ contents insurance scheme to their residents. I have spent the last two years before joining JMP working with housing associations and helping them navigate the recent difficult market conditions and source appropriate products across their insurance programmes.
What is your role at JMP?
As a Commercial Account Executive I will be working with our new and existing clients assessing their needs and sourcing appropriate insurance products, delivering value and providing overall excellence in service delivery.
Is there a particular accomplishment you’re proud of in your career?
Probably the depth and variation in my career to date, working across a number of different sectors has given me a great experience and knowledge across the spectrum of insurance products.
What do you like to do outside of work?
I am something of a foodie and as well as my love of cooking I enjoy all manner of restaurants, something which fortunately Cheltenham provides in abundance. I also like to travel and over the past 10 years or so have visited much of Europe, Scandanavia, the USA and Mexico with plans to visit SE Asia as my next adventure. Closer to home I enjoy walking, audiobooks, and attending to the whims of my polydactyl farm cat Roxanne.
What is something about you others may find surprising?
I once recorded an acoustic rock album with my best friend in a recording studio in Shanghai. It was awful and I am hopeful that no copies exist! I am also distantly related to John Wayne.
What do you love about working in insurance?
The opportunity to meet people, both clients and insurance colleagues, and build lasting relationships. In fact this is partly what has led me here to JMP, as I previously worked with Ed Hampshire from early on in both our insurance careers, for about 7 years altogether. I also enjoy the attention to detail, getting to know the ins and outs of insurance products, depth of the coverage, and how they would respond in the event of specific claim scenarios.
Do you have any advice for someone looking to succeed in your role?
Always be ready to learn, ask questions and get to know your clients well – when you understand their business you will understand their insurance needs.
