Understanding Dangerous Driving

Road Safety Week takes place from 17th-23rd November 2024. This annual event aims to raise awareness of the devastating effects of road traffic accidents. According to the road safety charity Brake, more than 1,700 people die on UK roads each year. Many of these accidents may have resulted from dangerous driving.

It’s essential to understand what dangerous driving is and how to report it to keep yourself and others safe on the road. It occurs when a person’s driving standard falls far below expected standards.

Examples include:

  • Speeding or driving aggressively
  • Ignoring road signs and traffic lights
  • Driving under the influence of drink or drugs
  • Using a mobile phone behind the wheel

If you see dangerous driving and there is immediate danger, dial 999. Alternatively, report a minor incident to the police non-emergency number, 101. Always make sure you’re parked before making a call.
